MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. — Google has temporarily doubled video generation limits for its Veo 3 AI model this weekend, responding to user complaints about restrictive quotas and aiming to boost engagement with the advanced video creation tool.
The move comes as Veo 3, unveiled in May at Google I/O 2025, continues to generate buzz for its ability to produce 8-second videos complete with native audio, including sound effects, ambient noise and dialogue. The model represents a significant leap in AI-driven content creation, building on Google’s DeepMind technology to deliver high-quality outputs that blend visuals and sound seamlessly.
Veo 3 also supports photo-to-video conversion, allowing users to transform static images into dynamic clips, expanding its utility for creative professionals and hobbyists alike. Developers gained access to the model through the Gemini API in a paid preview starting in July, enabling integration into custom applications. In June, Google integrated Veo 3 into Workspace tools, such as Google Vids, to facilitate video creation within productivity apps.
The temporary boost in limits, effective only through Sunday at 10 p.m. PT, addresses feedback on low generation caps. Free users now have up to six video generations for the weekend, while Pro users get six per day and Ultra users receive 10 per day. Unused credits from prior limits carry over, but rates do not reset.
In an X post announcing the change, the official Gemini App account quoted a user who called the original three-video limit “very little” and suggested doubling it. The response read: “Good idea. Let’s double it for everyone. This weekend only, ending tomorrow (8/24) at 10pm PT: Gemini free users, you now have up to 6 free video generations for the weekend. Pro users, your pack has doubled to 6 per day for the weekend. Ultra users, your pack has doubled to 10 per day for the weekend. Rates do not reset (so if you already used 3, you now have 3 more). Enjoy!” The post, which included a quoted video from user @MXZKARTA, garnered over 1,000 likes and hundreds of views. (View the embedded twee)
Google has also extended free access to Veo 3 for Indian students through a one-year Gemini upgrade, bundling it with 2 terabytes of storage as part of educational initiatives. However, the model includes restrictions on prompts involving real people in regions like the United Kingdom to comply with privacy and ethical policies. High compute demands have limited the rollout’s scale, with some users reporting challenges amid surging demand for AI features.
Veo 3 is available via Gemini Pro and Ultra plans, with highest access reserved for Ultra subscribers. It powers tools like Flow, an AI filmmaking interface introduced at I/O for collaborative storytelling. Google highlighted Veo 3’s capabilities in the I/O 2025 opening film, entirely generated using the model.
The company has not announced permanent changes to limits but emphasized ongoing refinements based on user input. As AI video generation evolves, Veo 3 positions Google competitively against rivals in the fast-growing field.
